The Losego “PUMP” Lab seeks a Phenomenological Understanding of Material Processes — both in the making of materials (processing) and their performance (transport phenomena, chemical stability, etc.). We seek to explain processes with fundamental phenomenological models, providing new insights to materials performance and design.

We focus on the use of vacuum-based, vapor phase processes to make and modify materials, including atomic layer deposition (ALD), atomic layer infiltration (ALI), vapor phase infiltration (VPI), and physical vapor deposition (PVD), with particular interest in understanding the synthesis and complex chemical and physical structure of organic-inorganic hybrid materials.

Prof Losego is committed to training creative and rigorous scientists and engineers that explore out-of-the-box ideas with well-reasoned methods.
